Dr. Kerstin Dressel & Dr. Patricia Pfeil were invited to give a key note at the international conference “Public Alerting and Social Media during Crisis and Disasters”, organised by the International Emergency Management Society (TIEMS) (www.tiems.info) in cooperation with the EU funded project Opti-Alert (www.opti-alert.eu) on the topic: “Public Alerting by Social Media – Advantages and Challenges of Social Media Compared to More Traditional Alerting Tools”. Following the oral presentation, Kerstin Dressel chaired the session: “Intergration of Public Alerting and Social Media”.
Attendees to the conference arrived from more than 20 countries worldwide. A so called Berlin Declaration was formulated at the final day concluding on the conference.
