After more than three years the EU-project Opti-Alert was successfully finalized. Objectives of Opti-Alert within security research, has been alerting and crisis communication in case of natural and man made disasters such as big fires, industrial explosion and others. On the basis of social scientific comparative studies, conducted in seven European countries (Austria, France, Italy, Germany, Sweden, the Netherlands and France) as well as findings from media studies the interdisciplinary consortium developed technical solutions for the improvement of public alerting systems. The findings of Opti-Alert allow a regionalized and personalized, target specific alerting of the public in case of a major crisis. The project results were disseminated in a wide range of scientific articles, publications in public media, such as newspapers or magazines as well as radio.
